Many people today do not put a great deal of emphasis on handwriting, and often skip it altogether. It's dull, boring and often becomes a battleground between parent and child. In this modern era of computers, spell check and thousands of fonts to choose from, it's so easy to assume that good handwriting skills are no longer needed and to let them slide.
But the beautiful, elegant handwriting of long ago that bespoke of a good education and the discipline of mind and hand has been replaced with scratchy, illegible writing that the recipient often has to struggle through in order to decipher!
There is a very simple and FUN cure for this! It's a new tool for homeschoolers that dates back hundreds of years...the old fashioned dipping pen! I have as yet to meet ANY child (or adult for that matter) who can watch my family use a dipping pen and not beg to give it a try...and once the pen is in their hand and the ink placed in front of them, they don't want to stop! They are drawn in and snagged...hook, line and sinker! And the best part is they are HAPPY about it! My own children often have to be forced to stop and put the ink away...and my husband simply can't resist pulling out a pen and dipping into the ink when he sees the kids working on their penmanship. This old-fashioned skill is truly irresistible!
There are so many aspects to the use of dipping pens and I will try to cover them all in the links to the right.
