In the 1800's up until the 1940's, Redwork was given to children to keep them busy and teach needlework skills at the same time. 'Penny Squares' were six inch muslin squares worked in Redwork and turned into quilts, aprons, pillows and other items.
We have created a very special kit that has enlarged blocks for more detailed embroidery - however on this item page you will be downloading the pdf file of directions and patterns only - it is assumed you already have a hoop, embroidery needles and have access to white muslin and red embroidery floss.
The full sized muslin blocks should measure 11x11 inches when you cut them and the finished Redwork blocks make wonderful bed quilts, throw quilts, framed artwork, pillowslips, apron bottons (place blocks instead of ruffle or tier), and more.
The patterns included are so pretty! Each pattern is a wreath of flowers and/or leaves and no two are the same.
This would make such a BEAUTIFUL wedding quilt or a quilt to place in a hope chest!!!
This kit is for intermediate to advanced needleworkers. The items created will make wonderful heirloom items that will be treasured for years to come.
